The Hero's Journey

1. A call to adventure, which the hero has to accept or decline
2. A road of trials, regarding which the hero succeeds or fails
3. Achieving the goal or "boon," which often results in important self-knowledge
4. A return to the ordinary world, again as to which the hero can succeed or fail
5. Application of the boon, in which what the hero has gained can be used to improve the world

Let's do this!

We need you to show your love to The Love Punks: www.myspace.com/lovepunkslove

In other words, add our Love Punks profile as your friend on Myspace!

We need to transfer some of our Myspace pals over to our alter-ego profile in preparation for some Road to Oprah press. :-)

If you haven't heard the story yet, the Evangenitals (traveling as The Love Punks) are going on a 45 day tour with the documentary crew of The 1 Second Film all over the US and Canada in a bio-diesel bus (with composting toilet and solar power!), ending up in Chicago, IL where we will ask Oprah to give us $1.

Big fun, baby.

Evangenitals on Oprah?

Dearest Friends of the Evangenitals,

This Saturday night, from 9pm to 2am, the Evangenitals are hosting a concert/party/fundraiser @ Mr. T's Bowl in Highland Park for The 1 Second Film's "Road Trip to Oprah". It's only $5 at the door, and there's so many great bands playing the joint might just explode from all the seething talent.

Just check out this radical flier by Patrick Ian Moore!

If you haven't heard yet, the "Road to Oprah" is a sure-to-be-legendary adventure in which the Evangenitals (traveling as The Love Punks) will be joining The 1 Second Film's documentary crew on a 45-day bio-diesel journey across America. We leave L.A. mid-September and will be visiting San Fran, New Orleans, Miami, NY, and many other cities along the way, stopping at universities and house parties to present the 1 Second Film project and perform sweet, sweet music whilst composing an on-the-road companion album for the film.

The trip will end in Chicago, where we hope to ask Oprah for $1 to help produce The 1 Second Film. We will be fundraising over the summer to make the trip a reality, starting this Saturday @ Mr. T's Bowl. So, in effect, by supporting the 1 Second Film, you can help the Evangenitals to get on Oprah... or at least get a whole lot of exposure on the Road to the Big O!

Here's the Lineup:
Vermouth (9pm)
The Evangenitals (10pm)
The Natural Disasters (11pm)
Cousin Junebug (11:45pm)
Ollin (12:30am)
8 Bit (1:15am)

All going down on
Saturday, June 23rd
at
Mr. T's Bowl
5621 1/2 FIGUEROA ST
Highland Park, CA 90041

$5 at the door. Proceeds from the party will benefit our Road Trip. The door money can also be put toward your producer credit. That's right, come to the show on Saturday night, and you are officially a Hollywood Movie Producer. No kidding. The 1 Second Film is even on IMDB. Kevin Bacon's a producer. You could be 1 degree from Kevin Bacon! How's that for a way to spend your Saturday evening?

We need to raise $11K ASAP to buy an old school bus so we can convert it to bio-diesel and ready it for the trip. This Saturday will be a fun start.

Hope you can make it, and please pass this on to folks who give a damn.

All my nuggets,
Juli of the Genitals

Evangenitals Fun(d)Raiser

This Friday December 15th We, the Evangenitals will be playing our last
show of 2006 at the Old Towne Pub in Pasadena.

I would very much like you to be there, if you can. There are many
reasons for this. I will list them, and you can pick whichever you
like, put it in your pocket, and come see the show.

1. This is the last Evangenitals show of '06.
(see explanation above)

2. The last show was so friggin' dope, and this one is gonna be even
better.
Need proof? Watch this video from the last show. If you were AT the
last show (Kent, Leslie, Sharon, Alan, Joseph, Eliot etc) you may find
yourself IN the video!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xdZjSq-ydA

3. This is a fundraiser for our next album.
In January we will be hitting the studio to lay down tracks for all
your new, favorite songs that weren't on the first album. Like Fuck
'em All. So if you have wanted a recording of Fuck 'em All, come to
the show, and we will be able to make you one in January. We need
$600 to pull this off, and all proceed from the show go toward the
new album.

4. Because we love you.
We really do. Always have, always will. Seriously.

5. The "Super-Deluxe Medley of Cover Songs".
I'm not kidding. This medley will blow your mind, and you can only
hear it live, this time, while we've got the Holiday Balls to go
through with it.

6. We (10:15pm) are playing with the Natural Disasters (9:30pm) and
the Purple Gang (11:15pm) which means we have the musical spectrum
covered, from punk rock to blues to hillbilly soul to psychedelic
rock to 50's doo wop. We got it. Come n' get it.

7. There will be press coverage, celebrity photographs, and we need
your sexy faces to come make us look good. Video interviews.
Paparazzi, baby. This is Hollywoodland. Put your face on and be
seen.

If none of these reasons prove sufficient to encourage your presence
at this epic show, (or if you happen to be in another state, which is
a decent excuse) please at a minimum send us your good, supportive
thoughts and prayers.

And please be sure to check out ALL the new Evangenitals videos on
YouTube, and don't forget to leave us some comments!

Evangenitals. Pasadena. Flaming Love.

Hi. This is Juli from the Evangenitals. How have you been? Please
let me know, because I'm never sure if you are reading this blog or not.

I hope you've been well. More than well. I hope you're seeing
rainbows with your eyes open and closed. If you're not, maybe I can
help you with that.

Now, I'm not one to usually go for the hard sell, as I'm a much
bigger fan of soft candy. HOWEVER, when the situation so requires, I
am willing to pull out the bells and whistles and do a little tap
dance for "the cause" so... here we go!

This Friday Night, November 17th at Old Towne Pub (formerly the Loch
Ness) the Evangenitals are pullin' out the stops (that means
No-Holds-Barred Evangenital Action) at 10pm. And you can be a part
of it for just $5.

The stylish show flier by our Resident Flier Designer Patrick Ian
Moore can be viewed here:
http://www.evangenitals.com/images/hugeevangenitalsptryxxxpubfl.jpg

That's right, we're Getting Naked (spiritually speaking), lettin'
down our hair, trying some new things, re-visioning some old, and
celebrating drummer GEORGE BERNARDO's Birthday. And friggin' Ninja
Academy is playing with us. That's awesome!

The Evangenitals, for this show, will consist of Juli Crockett, Brett
Lyda, Lisa Dee, and George Bernardo, as usual, with Geof Brandin on
the bass and Bryan Landers giving it to you good on the Pedal Steel
and Electric Banjo. I'd say it's worth seeing all that squeezed onto
the small stage of the Old Towne Pub.

Did I mention that it's only $5 (that's FIVE DOLLARS. 500 pennies.
Only 20 quarters. you see what I'm saying?)

The Full Line Up:
9pm Marty West and the Lower Companions
10pm The Evangenitals(tm)
11pm Ninja Academy
12pm SPECIAL SECRET SHOW. We ain't tellin'. You just gotta be there
to see it.

In other news, have you ever found yourself asking who are the
Evangenitals REALLY are? Off the stage... out of the bright lights
of dingy bars? Well NOW YOU CAN SEE FOR YOURSELF!

This just in! Exclusive "Rehearsal Footage" of the Evangenitals, at
ease:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoMcAXmLaDg

Watching this video may actually give you some hints as to what tunes
may be appearing in our Old Towne Pub set, so check it out!

Much Love,
Juli & the Genitals

Evangina voted.... did you?

Evangina hit the polls at the Pillar of Fire in Highland Park and snapped this ACTION BROOM pic for the collection over at MichaelMoore.com!

How did your voting day go, people? How's the tide gonna turn now?

Monday, November 14, 2005

And the award goes to....

Oh... my.... lord.

We just won a couple of "Reviewers Picks" awards for the Evangina song "Love You Forever" over on GarageBand.com

It seems the powers that be have seen fit to grace us with the honors of "Best Female Vocals in Acoustic" for the week of Nov 14th, 2005, and "Best Lyrics in Acoustic" for the week of Nov 14th, 2005 as well.

Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle. Ain't that sweet?

In other news, Julio's mom is coming to town, and she's damn excited about it! Mom Crockett will be in town for the Evangenitals show at Mr T's Bowl on November 20th, so if you've ever found yourself asking from whence this ball of cosmic fire, otherwise known as Juli Crockett, came hither from... well, you can meet the source and portal on Sunday night.

For Lisa's portal information, you will have to consult a magic 8 ball.

In even more news, Lisa and Juli have been secretly plotting to move to New York City. Details forthcoming.

"God loves you, and I'm trying."

Can you feel the Power?

we love you already

Boy oh boy, it's feeling real nice to be an evangina girl right about now! Things are just warm and fuzzy all over. I can't believe it!

After preparing myself for the worst over at GarageBand.com, we've actually gotten a couple of love-letters and new fans and sweet sentiments from the folks who are listening to our simple song. It's beautiful! Hearts are melting! Squishy bits are being touched! We're almost up to the halfway mark in the rankings! It's very exciting and fun. I'm loving it.

And then, I get an email today from the ladies at Double G Magazine asking us, Evangina, the lovestruck girl duo sublime, to play at their 1st Issue celebration/fundraiser in Echo Park on December 3rd.*

And what did we say.... We said YES! Yes, yes, YES!

Are you listening, Universe? Our answer is YES! Whatever treats you have in store... YES! Whatever twists of fate and surprises.... YES! We are listening, we are ready, we are willing. We are Evangina!

xoxo

Attention Myspace Users! You can be a friend to Double G Magazine! Here is the link: http://www.myspace.com/doublegmag Do eeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

*DISCLAIMER:
Juli and Lisa are not lesbian lovers, nor are we lesbians.
We have, of course, both had our drunken escapades
(not with each other)
and we are very big fans of the female form.
No one knows what the future holds,
and Julio has long been suspected of "swinging both hither and yon",
however, for the time being, we are very much "GLB Friendly"
and always willing to show up for the cause.

divide and conquer

Evangina has just entered our first "song contest" over at GarageBand.com (http://www.garageband.com/artist/evangina)

Now, we have no expectation of winning any such contest, however, it is of course a dramatic act to simply put something so love sick and simple out there in the fierce world of GarageBand music and reviews.

Bo Bice, the beloved second-placer of the last season of American Idol, was a GarageBand music posting participant. I don't know if any of his bands ever won in any of their categories, but GarageBand certainly emblazoned the front page of their site with his image when he made it into the final stretch on American Idolatry. Did they ever!

And this, my friends, is similar to our tactics. Put the song out there, let it be torn apart by the clawed beasts and toothed boars, and then, someday, down the line, when by a most bizarre twist of fate lisa dee and me become America's Sweethearts for a fine, fine fifteen minutes... then, my friends, THEN we will have our glory day on the front page of GarageBand.com!

Till then, you could do something nice for the Gina Girls and visit us over there on GarageBand. It's free to join the site, listen to songs, and do reviews. If you do a hella reviews, you can even EARN the credit to post your OWN vulnerable musical stylings and expose you soft underbelly to the hounds of hell.

WE gonna BE on TV!!!!

Holy Crap... The Evangenitals are going to be on Television!

You heard me right. On Television!

QTV, to be exact. At 9am, this Friday, October 28th. The show is called "Brunch" and we're the musical guests.

I'm not sure exactly how the cookie will crumble, as this has been a fly by the seat of our pants kind of affair, however, I do know that we will be in Halloween attire, playing two full length tunes during the hour and 1/2 program, groove-riding in an out of the commercial breaks (slipping in the leads to some of our dirtier numbers that were not approved for televised performance) and there are rumors of Jeff Jones bustin' out the thong once again, if the FCC will allow it.

Evangenital Brettsky, unfortunately, has to be in school that morning... so it's up to Juli, Lisa, Jones, and Salad to represent the magic of the Evangenitals for this, our first televised appearance. We shall do it, Brett! We shall transmit the joy!

Now, if you've got a request for a song or a shout out, you better send it our way pronto! No four letter words, but "suggestive" is alright, I'm told.

And guess what... it's a LIVE show, so you can even call in while we're there! You can call the show from 9am-10:30am Pacific time / 12pm-1:30pm Eastern. The phone number for the call-ins is 818-848-5008.

Information on how to watch us on Friday can be found here: *Subscription Information*

In other news, we're gearing down for the Lava Lounge show at Midnight on Thursday, November 3rd. Lately our shows have been getting mighty rockin' and rowdy, and we're gonna take it down about 11 notches for one night to revisit some of our mellow golden space bass harmonious low-ness. It's gonna be a late night lounge love fest, to be sure.

Tune in on Friday! Barrage the network with loving emails! See your darling Genitals on Television! Get happy!

Much love,
Juli, Lisa, Brett, Jones, and Salad.

Peas!

This weekend, the ladies of the Evangenitals, Lisa Dee and Juli C, also known as EVANGINA, stepped into the personal studio of Jeremy Zuckerman, sonic artist and composer of Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender, and laid down 8 tracks of sweet golden Evangina honey in one day. The results are incredible.

Mixing and mastering is going down as we speak, and some day soon an Evangina album called "Peas" is going to hit the streets.

In the meantime, you can hear some tracks from the upcoming album on our Myspace page, here: http://www.myspace.com/weareevangina

We also have a few tunes on Audio Street: http://www.audiostreet.net/evangina

More to come, as we're throwing them online as soon as Zuckerman sends 'em our way!

Stay tuned!

3SHOTS @ Hangar 1018

Monday, August 15, 2005

oh my goodness, oh my goodness

well, it looks like things are about to pick up in Gina town, folks.

no only are we playing at the mega-awesome 3SHOTS event at Hangar 1018 on Saturday August 20th at 7pm (to be followed by such wondrous goodness as 8-Bit, Fascinoma, Substitute Universe, and Poolabomb)

but... and...

we are also recording an ALBUM of straight Evangina delights on the 27th with the supra-fantastic wonderboy Jeremy Zuckerman, who happens to do the composing for a Nickelodeon show called AVATAR, that if haven't seen, you should, because it is rather on the zen tip, good for the spirit and quite enjoyable to boot.

and then...

in September the Gina is going down to Long Beach for the Women on the Mic extravaganza... where you can win a CD player and an album from every band on the bill in a raffle. WHO DOESN'T LOVE A RAFFLE???

it's feeling like a good month, for a lot of reasons.

you can read lisa and my (juli's) blogs for more personal spillage.

w3rd.

we love you all, whoever you are.

money woes

Lisa and I are going to sell our pubic hair for some art project. We're getting paid $125 bucks for it. We're also considering another gig for the medical marijuana folks. God bless 'em.

Attention all major record producers and labels: please help.

Gina for Hire.

Friday, July 15, 2005

do you remember us?

hello all.

it has been quite some time since i've written in the Gina diary. the fact of the matter is, it's hot... and when it's hot, i can only do 1000 things in a day, as opposed to the 10,000 of cooler months, so i'm falling behind in many areas, you can imagine.

the big news today is that the Evangina duo is actually going to play again. we've been considering doing another gig at the Medical Marijuana joint out in Santa Monica.... but i don't know if i can handle it. being around giant nugs of sweet sweet cush makes me a little itchy. (i'm allergic to all things narcotic, see?)

so, the show we ARE going to play is:

Women on the Mic

@ Hot Java
2105 E Broadway, Long Beach, CA 90803
Saturday, September 24th 7-11pm.

All ages.

Featuring:
Adrina Thorpe
Ashley Ventri
Whitton and the GURU SOUL
Alyssandra Nighswonder
Nadine Zahr
and Evangina!

Art on display by: Steffanie Walk

Come on down and show your love for Evangina and the ladies of Long Beach!

Evangina on Top!

I don't know how this happened, or how long it will last, however....

Evangina's "Beautiful Boy" is topping the Indie Charts over at AudioStreet.com.

See for yourself: follow this link!

The Evangenitals are still holding strong on Audio Street as well, with Gasoline and The Work Song in the Alternative Country Top Ten, and Hey Ya dominating the Alternative Cover Song charts.

Go pay a visit, download, rock out, and help us keep rocking them charts. Small victories keep us keeping up.

Evangina for Governor!

Looks like there's a flurry of activity coming up for the Gina girls...

We have just been asked to perform at an upcoming fundraiser for City Councilman Antonio Villaraigosa.

The fundraiser is set for February 13th... just one day before the Evangenitals Sweet Love Valentine Show at the Lava Lounge in Hollywood.

And our new friends Whitton, who we met down in Long Beach, are asking us to come back down for some Ladies Night Acoustic Sweet Sauce in the LBC.

We are very down for the drive.

We've just joined the club and created our very own MySpace page for Evangina. Please look us up and add us as your pal. WE ARE HERE: http://profiles.myspace.com/users/15323763

And don't forget, you can hear us on AudioStreet.net... right here: audiostreet.net/evangina

It's Time for More GINA!!!!!

EVANGINA is playing at KOOS, in Long Beach!

Lisa Dee and Juli Cee will be participating in the Tenbyten art show. 10 solid minutes of Evangina. Gettin' down in the LBC.

w3rd to your momma.

tenbyten is presented by Deep Fried Polenta and Koo's (www.koos.org)

Koo's, 540 E. Broadway, Long Beach

Free parking available to us in the SST Parking-lot at the SW corner of 4th and Linden

First Wednesday of each month

8:00pm, reception to follow

Admission: $6.00, no reservations

Tenbyten tenets:

It’s a place to do, take a chance, experiment, and risk failure.

It’s an open style performance event, (with minor exception*) the first Wednesday of each month.

It’s a place where established artists can trip outside the box as well as mix the media.

The event is called tenbyten because each piece can be no longer than 10 minutes, and there will be no more than ten performances per Wednesday. After ten minutes of performance a bell will sound and the lights will go off – not a threat; a promise.

Write about tenbyten , spread the word, however, we respectfully ask you not to review individual pieces. We don't want the artists to inhibit their expression because they are worried about a "bad" review. We want this to be a true performance laboratory.

The audience is invited to a modest reception (included in the price of admission) after the performance where one may talk to the artists about the work they've just performed. We encourage audience members to tell the performers what they connected to in the work and what kept them out.

All species of performance are welcome - dance, performance art, music, visual arts, film, slide-shows, spoken word, martial arts demonstrations, whatever… *Sorry, but at present nudity is not allowed without license in public performance in Long Beach…

If you want to do your thing at tenbyten e-mail tenbytenperformance@yahoo.com
Once your performance is booked, then confirmed, you will receive performance date and tech information, etc.

making love to the whole world

juli j. crockett and lisa drucker dee made love to the whole wide world last night whilst diddling their strings in the spotlight. it was a beautiful thing. both of us went home deliriously grateful.

due to the rousing success of the evening, mad outpourings of love we received, and girlish squeals that long-time evangenitals fans emitted upon hearing our heartfelt and simple set, we decided to create yet another blog page for your soul-consumption.

this one is for the ladies, and those who love them. this is a sign of the coming of the lovey dovey days. this is a testament to the soft spot in all of us. it is another sprout in the ever-expanding network of the evangenitals lovespiritsocialholyshit revolution.

we love you. always and already.

oh yea... and you can hear the girly shit right here: www.audiostreet.net/evangina
